Concrete Roof Tile Manufacture and Sustainability - A Tour
Sponsored By Eagle Roofing
Presented By David Vallas
1 AIA HSW/LU CE Hour(s)

To observe the production of concrete roof tiles from the delivery of raw materials through the packaged product. During this two-hour meeting and tour, the design professionals will observe the storage of raw materials and the various processes used to blend the raw materials during the production process.

Learning Objectives:
  1. Describe the use of extrusion to create long lasting and waterproof roofing tiles, and describe the ”circuit approach”
  2. Distinguish between continuous mix systems and batch mix color systems
  3. Examine the sustainable nature of the concrete roof tile manufacturing process from the reuse of water to the reintroduction of crushed/rejected tiles into the manufacturing process
  4. Articulate the various test standards utilized to ensure concrete roof tile’s quality

Concrete Tile Roofing: The World's Most Sustainable and Energy Efficient Roof System - Update
Sponsored By Eagle Roofing
Presented By Victor Rosas
1 AIA HSW/LU CE Hour(s)
1 GBCI General Hour

In this one hour course, we will take an in-depth look at the sustainability and energy efficient attributes of concrete tile roofing, including the near zero-waste manufacturing process, life-cycle cost and performance versus temporary asphalt shingle roofing as well as the installation process which enhances the inherent thermal mass

Learning Objectives:
  1. Discuss how the versatility of concrete tile roofing combined with its durability makes it one of the most sustainable roofing products available
  2. Consider the value of products composed of a small number of raw materials that are sustainable, including some recycled materials
  3. Review the near zero waste manufacturing process of concrete roof tiles from the introduction of raw materials to the finished product
  4. Compare and contrast an installation method that exploits the air permeable characteristics of concrete tile roofs versus temporary roofing materials
  5. Identify key performance characteristics of concrete tile roofing including wind and hail resistance
  6. Analyze the longevity, durability, and overall life cycle cost analysis of concrete roof tile compared to asphalt shingles, wood shakes, slate, and metal
  7. Confidently specify concrete tile roofing as an alternative to slate, metal, wood shakes, and temporary asphalt shingles

Concrete Roof Tile: Systems and Installation Methods
Sponsored By Eagle Roofing
Presented By Victor Rosas
1 AIA HSW/LU CE Hour(s)
1 GBCI General Hour

The roof of a building is not only vital as a structural component but can also be an important design feature that makes a building stand out among others. Join us in this one-hour course as we discuss the installation methods of concrete roof tile systems that minimize environmental impact while maximizing durability and design.

Learning Objectives:
  1. Recall the storied history of concrete roof tile systems and see how the modern manufacturing methods have brought this product to a near zero waste life cycle.
  2. Become familiar with the performance attributes of a properly installed concrete roof tile system that have shown to be one of the worlds strongest and most durable roof systems in cases of extreme weather or fire.
  3. Discuss modern installation methods of concrete roof tile systems that have proven to ensure the highest level of safety in protecting the building envelope.
  4. Identify the robust aesthetic design options achievable with a concrete roof tile system through numerous different profiles, virtuously unlimited color possibilities, and alternative installation details.

1 GBCI General Hour

When designing a restroom, professionals are often faced with the challenge of selecting materials that are durable, hygienic, and sustainable.

Learning Objectives:
  1. Recognize the threat of infectious bacteria on high-touch surfaces in restrooms, focusing on the harm that infected partitions and handles can have on occupants’ health
  2. Describe the safe and sustainable characteristics of HDPE and explain how it promotes a healthier environment for building occupants
  3. Illustrate the efficacy of copper at inhibiting infectious bacteria and compare it to other materials that claim antimicrobial properties
  4. Evaluate the sustainable practices of manufacturers in order to specify quality HDPE + Copper products that are safe for both the environment and occupants
